Gastritis (Gastric): Symptoms,Cause,Prevention

There are very rare people who do not suffer from gastric issues nowadays. All children and old people suffer from acidity or gastritis problems due to various reasons including irregular eating routine, fried food, oily food, processed food and more.

According to epidemiologic studies, in the United States of America approximately 1.8-2.1 million people each year visit a doctor’s chamber for this problem.

What is Gastritis?

Gastritis is a condition in which the stomach mucosa layer becomes inflamed, irritated, and eroded. The inflammation can be started slowly or suddenly

It causes stomach pain, indigestion (dyspepsia), bloating, and nausea in the stomach.

If one does not take proper steps in time and is left untreated , gastritis can lead to significant blood loss and increase the risk of stomach cancer.

Symptoms

Gastritis symptoms vary from person to person, and many people have no symptoms at all. The following are the most common symptoms:

  • Frequent stomach upset and nausea.
  • Abdomen bloating
  • Abdomen pain
  • Vomiting
  • Indigestion
  • A burning or biting sensation in the stomach between meals or at night
  • Hiccups
  • Loss of hunger tendency
  • Blood vomiting or substance looks like coffee
  • Stools that are black and tarry.

 If you have any or few of those symptoms, you should take a step to cure it and follow the preventive measures.

Causes

The most common causes of gastritis are as follows:

  • Excessive alcohol consumption
  • Eating spicy and friend fatty food
  • Smoking
  • Some Health condition and disease (i.e Insomnia)
  • Infection
  • Particular high power medications(aspirin or other anti-inflammatory medicines)
  • Allergic and immune system disorder
  • Chronic vomiting
  • Stress

The other causes are as follows:

1. Infection by the Helicobacter Pylori bacteria. The most common bacterial cause of gastritis is the “Helicobacter pylori bacteria”. 

This bacteria also affects our Gastric mucosa layer and causes gastritis.

One can be infected by the direct contact with the infected person by this bacteria. 

The other ways to spread this helicobacter pylori bacterial infections are food, water, and stool.

As this bacteria lives in saliva, so one can be infected  by kissing or doing oral sex.

2. Bile reflux which means an overflow of bile from the biliary tract into the stomach.

Prevention

The following preventive measures may help to prevent gastritis :

  • Avoid foods that are fatty, fried, spicy, or acidic
  • Do not eat caffeinated foods
  • Throughout the day, eat small meals
  • Reduce your stress level
  • Try to not take Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs)
  • Limit your alcohol consumption
  • Do not lay down just after a meal. Walk slowly at least 10 minutes after a meal
  • Don’t eat too much food in a meal. While eating, fill half of your stomach with food, ¼ portion fill with water and the rest ¼ keep empty
  • Pulses such as lentils, gram, boot, soybean, and others should be avoided.
  • Vegetables that are not easily digested, such as cauliflower, cabbage,  and spinach, which  produce gas, must be avoided
  • Avoid milk tea

Do not eat a lot at once, eat little by little for a while, do not leave the stomach empty. Drink pure water as needed. Make sure you get enough sleep. If you can’t break the habit of eating fried or extra oily spicy foods, no matter how much you take home remedies or seek medical help, the acidity will not leave you behind. There is no greater medicine than awareness.

Conclusion

Gastric is a common problem among people of all ages all over the world. There are very rare cases that gastritis is fully cured by only eating medicine without changing lifestyle and food habits.

It is said that prevention is better than cure. So the biggest treatment for gastritis, acidity or gastric problems is prevention. There are certain things that make your acidity problem worse.  It is better to identify the  thing that causes your gastritis, and should be avoided.

So lifestyle changes and food habit control may help you to get rid of gastric problems.
