A study was made on some specific subjects C57BL/6 mice a specific strain of laboratory mice commonly used in scientific research. The mice were fed with a diet of 10% fat and a specific class of probiotic named Lactobacillus gasseri for six months.

The researchers examined some impoirtant factors that trigers metabolic syndrom and oxidative stress in blood. The factros are mice’s weight and the amount of fat tissue in their bodies, amount of fat present in the livers, genes associated with inflammation in the mice’s fat tissue, genes in the liver related to the processes of fat production and lipogenic and lipolytic genes in the liver.

The result of the study showed the following:

The mice who consumed Lactobacillus gasseri had a significant reduction of over all body weight and the amount of fat stored in specific fat tissue areas.

A positive result was showd up in the mice. They had reduced levels of triglycerides which is the fat in the liver. DNA microarray analysis showed that Lactobacillus gasseri can up regulate pro-inflammatory genes is the genes associated with inflammation.

Lactobacillus gasseri helped to reduce lipogenic genes(genes involved in fat production) and did not influence lipolytic genes (genes involved in fat breakdown)
